Technical Support Technician with IT Skills

Job Description

To strengthen day-to-day technical support across the hospital, I propose recruiting a Technical Support Technician with IT Skills.

The objective is to have a practical, hands-on person available on-site to assist with routine first-line technical issues across IT, medical equipment, non-medical equipment, and general hospital technical requirements. The role is intended as a technician-level position, with more complex issues escalated and handled under appropriate technical guidance.

Responsibilities

The role would be suitable for someone with:

  • A technical diploma, MCAST qualification, or equivalent practical technical background.
  • Basic IT and networking knowledge.
  • An interest in electronics, electrical systems, computers, or technical equipment.
  • Good practical problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to learn about medical equipment and hospital systems.
  • Ability to follow procedures and escalate issues when required.
  • Good communication skills and a practical, hands-on attitude.
  • Previous hospital or medical equipment experience would be considered an advantage but would not be essential, as guidance and on-the-job exposure can be provided.

Requirements

Basic IT Skills Required

The candidate should have practical, basic IT knowledge, including:

  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Windows.
  • Ability to install and configure PCs, printers, scanners, and common peripherals.
  • Basic troubleshooting of workstation and software issues.
  • Basic networking knowledge, including IP addresses, Wi-Fi, LAN connections, network cables, and simple connectivity troubleshooting.
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot common printer communication issues.
  • Basic understanding of network switches, patch panels, and physical network connections.
  • Ability to carry out first-line checks when a workstation or device cannot connect to the network or another system.
  • Basic user support and assistance with common application issues.
  • General Technical Support Duties

In addition to basic IT support, the technician would assist with

  • First-line inspection and basic troubleshooting of medical equipment.
  • Basic technical checks before escalation.
  • Support with non-medical equipment and general technical devices used throughout the hospital.
  • Assistance with preventive maintenance activities and scheduled equipment checks.
  • Equipment inventory and asset checks.
  • Assistance with installations, equipment relocations, workstation setups, and basic cabling.
  • Maintaining basic service records and technical documentation.
  • Following up with suppliers and external service providers when instructed.
  • General hands-on technical assistance across hospital departments.
